Callum Abberely achieved a new club record in the U15Boys 3000m last night finishing in a time of 9:33.2. Running in his first ever 3000m race, Callum just eclipsed Mark Wortley’s 32 year old record by two seconds set back in 1983. The talented Burton AC runner went through the first one kilometre in 3:03 then held back during the remainder of the race. The race was won in 8:30 by Michael Salter of Leeds City. Callum’s hoping to compete in a few more races before the England Athletics Championships next month and certainly this 3000m race was great experience and preparation for him.

Jack Simpson also competed at the BMC event hosted at Tipton. He ran another 800m under two minutes in a time of 1:59.2. Jack’s next race is at the Midland Championships in three weeks time where he will be joined by Callum.
