Middle distance specialist Ellis Cross broke another club record last weekend competing in the Cardiff 10k. Cross who had only just recently broke the Tamworth AC Junior Mens 10,000m track record, produced a fine performance on his preferred terrain. The event had over five thousand runners in with Rugby international star Jamie Roberts starting to race. The recently crowned Midland 3000m champion was part of a four man strong team travelling to Wales to compete in the 10k elite road race. Finishing in a magnificent 39th position, his time of 31:58 eclipses Jacob Hughes’ 6-year-old record by 4 minutes and 37 seconds. Ellis will be heading down to St Mary’s university over the next couple of weeks to study as well as joining up with the renowned athletics squad. He is now focusing ahead to the European Cross Country trials in Liverpool, in which he hopes to achieve selection for Great Britain.
