Mason Trophy Report 2015

Jack Simpson won the B race at the Mason Trophy last weekend winning the 800m Intermediate Boys race. Jack won the race comfortably in 2:00.42.

Callum Abberley was really psyched up before his 1500m race. He had won the county schools and county champs in recent weeks and has been on fire in training. Taking control of the race, he led all the way up until the last lap when unfortunately his body started shutting down. I never actually thought I would witness it but I believe he hit a state of anxiety, arousal and stress which therefore shut his body down. Callum speaking after the race said, “I have no idea what happened. My body just started feeling uncomfortable and I started being sick. It was a really slow pace as well so I have no idea. I had a lot of people watching and had been stressed with exams”.

I think we psyched up Callum too much before the race and therefore it was very frustrating to see as he’s such a hard worker. Callum’s final two races before the English Schools Track and Field Championships are an 800m Tuesday at Tipton Harriers and a 3 mile run the following weekend.
