Abberley Breaks 31-Year-Old Record

On a humid day at Burton Athletics Track 15-year-old Callum Abberley broke Burton AC’s U17Mens 400m Record with a time of 52.1 seconds. The previous holder was Tim Rushton who clocked 52.5 back in 1985. Moments before breaking the record he easily won an 800m race in 1:59.6.  It won’t be long until he breaks his own record considering he has another 15 months left in his age category.

Teammate Jack Simpson equaled his own fastest time over the 1500m running 4:06 in a BMC event in Watford. Jack currently is the only athlete in the squad to have achieved an English Schools Athletics Standard. He will now be preparing for the main schools championships in Gateshead next month.

Elsewhere, Thomas Randolph and Bikram Singh were also in great form running for Tamworth AC in the Midland Athletics League. Bikram equaled his 800m best clocking 2:01.8 whereas, Thomas recorded a new PB over the 400m running 52.1 seconds. He also easily won the 800m in a time of 2:00.8.
